I am new to opk's and I read on the instructions that you shouldn't drink "excess water" before taking the test. I'm not sure what counts as excess and I tend to air on the cautious side so I haven't been drinking much of any water in the morning and afternoon. I think I am getting dehydrated, and I end up drinking tons of water after the second test. Soo, I end up having to pee all night. How much water should (or shouldn't) I be drinking? Thanks in advance!

Basically it is just saying that you shouldn't be drinking much water at least 3-4 hours before you test. So it's ok for you to drink water in the morning/afternoon as regular but just 3-4 hours before you decide to test go to the bathroom and keep drinking to a minimum like 1 glass to none at all! Hope this helps!

Isn't TTC fun? You should actually drink as much water as you can. Not only is it healthier for your future baby, but it is extremely good for EWCM!! Experiment a bit, see if you can just hold your urine for a couple hours, and only skip a lot of liquids during that window. Luckily, I test better with FMU!
Good luck!!!

agree with stevi. when you have a surge, it shows up. now if you drink ridiculously and your pee is the color of water, no guarantees, but not many people can drink that much even if they tried. when im testing opks and expecting a pos, i pee into a cup everytime i go to the bathroom. if it's very clear, i just dump it. if it's normal, i test it. i end up testing 2-3 times a day in that period of time, and i drink a lot because my cm tends to suck.

i test 2-3 times a day though, when i know it should be turning pos for me soon, so that wouldnt work, cuz i'd never get a chance to drink! luckily, like i said, it's really never been an issue. when an opk is pos, the level is so high, it's not likely to matter unless the pee is very very diluted.

Yatta89... Heh heh heh, I didn't mean to imply what you said was wrong. Once a TTCer figures out the best time to test for her particular system, what you suggested is exactly what I would recommend. But, if you are just starting out with OPKs, you kind of have to learn how they work best for you, first. What time of day you get positive OPKs is the first thing you want to find out, in order to do that, you should test a few times a day.
I like the other suggestions of peeing in a cup everytime, and judging by the pee color whether or not to test with it! (I think I did that in the past)
