My 18 mo DD started biting her nails about a month ago and now does it most of the time. She isn't drawing blood but has bitten them right down to the quick. I think it started because she had a snagged nail, and when that happens I sometimes bite it off, so she copied me and obviously found she liked doing it. I really hope she'll just stop doing it but am a bit worried that it might develop into a long-term habit. Not only does it make her fingers all slimy and yucky, but it looks terrible - I mean she's only 18 months! So far I haven't been making any comment - well I did try a week ago for about two minutes asking her to take her hands out, but she just got cross so I decided that wasn't a road I wanted to travel down. I wouldn't be averse to putting bitrex on her nails, but of course she eats with her hands a lot so I couldn't do that. Anyone want to tell me that their toddler was the same and then stopped doing it of their own accord?
