May I ask your opinion? (x-posted)

Hi, I am new to the idea of homeschooling, and especially to the Montessori method. Do you think I should even be considering fulltime homeschooling DS using the Montessori principles if I am living in a country that hardly homeschools and the culture even promotes group over individuality (Japan)? In Tokyo, I could find over the internet lots of visible homeschooling support including Montessori, but I am far from there. Here in Osaka, I feel kind of like there's no support -or that I don't know yet where to find it, aside from the internet. I am also concerned that I have no idea where to look for socialization opportunities among English speaking families. DS will be raised bilingual.

I tried to see if there was even a Japan tribe here on MDC, but can't find it.

Thanks for any input!

It all depends on what your goals are. In the international market, if you want to even take it that far, the future really is in creative ideas and thinking.

I'd go ahead a start a thread in the Far East FYT area, and post about it in TAO (if you don't have access to TAO yet, go ahead and PM me and I'll post one for you "mama in Japan looking for MDCers" )

My goal is basically to raise DS with a good moral and well rounded character and to enjoy learning with an eager attitude and to have developed the skills necessary to succeed in life with a good occupation that he likes.

Thanks, that is a really inspiring blog!

Although I really want to homeschool, I don't think I am organized, creative, and efficient enough to pull that off. I often even think I will be harming DS rather than helping him. I am SO NOT that mama on the blog. She's amazing.

However, I just now stumbled across a Montessori school in Osaka via the internet, so I plan to contact them. I am supposing it may be out of our budget though. I wonder what age children are allowed to enter Montessori schools.
