How long have you been running? At what age did you start or restart running?

If you don't count HS track (I don't ) it was sophomore year in college. I had a crush on a guy who was looking for a running partner.

So I've run on and off (more on than off) for 15 years.

What is a "typical" run for you?
Right now it's a 5 mile loop from home, around a university park, then home. With 1-4 women from my street at 8:15 pm. Our typical is a 9 minute mile, and we're gunning for 8:30 and below.

How many times a week do you run?

4-6

Do you alternate any other training or exercises?

I ride my bike to work daily for a total of ~30 miles a week, ride 20 miles with a friend on Sundays. I started playing soccer again two weeks ago, but that won't be more than once a week.

Your biggest challenge?

Keeping my SI joint in line.

Your greatest success or favorite thing about running?
Greatest success:
Starting a running group on MDC in February 2004, now called the dingos.

Favorite thing about running? It's a toss up between
*Maintaining sanity for the low, low cost of one pair of running shoes every 4 months. Definitely cheaper than therapy.
*Watching the seasons change, looking at the night sky through the year.

If you would be kind enough to indulge my curiosity.....

How long have you been running? Since I was about 10 or so, when my dad started me on 5K races with him in Wheaton, Ill.

At what age did you start or restart running? I'm 32 and have been an avid runner since my teens, racing in school and continuing with 10K's and marathons in my 20's.

What is a "typical" run for you - landscape, distance, time, speed, time of day, etc...
Since I have a 2 year old, my runs have to be at 5 AM right out my front door so that I'm back in time for my hubby to go off to work... But I LOVE this time! I love the sounds of the birds chirping, the absence of cars, the rising sun... Best time of day for sure!!! I typically do an 8-10 mile route around my town at a 7:30/8 minute-mile pace.

How many times a week do you run? 3-4

Do you alternate any other training or exercises? YOGA!!! And walking to and from the coffee shop with my daughter every morning, which is a 3 mile addition to the day.

Your biggest challenge? I get injured a lot, ever since having my daughter.

Your greatest success or favorite thing about running? Greatest success - 2 marathons, both in 3:30; favorite thing - EVERYTHING!... The alone time, the endorphin rush, the physical health and fitness perk, the confidence it gives me, the running community, etc., etc...

Thanks!

About 4 years.

At what age did you start or restart running?
I started when I was 22, after quitting smoking and gaining some weight.

I run between 3 and 5 miles most of the time. I'm slow, and don't like the heat so I usually go in the mornings. I run in alleys, on bike paths, etc.. When I started running I lived in the country, and my runs were more scenic.

How many times a week do you run?
I try for 4.

Do you alternate any other training or exercises?
I cycle nearly everywhere, walk 2-5 miles a day with the dog, and try to do some strength training. I see great results with strength training, but don't really like it...

Your biggest challenge?
Being consistent.

Your greatest success or favorite thing about running?
I love the freedom. All I need are shoes and a bra and I am good! I can go out and get a quick workout that is incredibly satisfying in very little time.

Thanks!
