Traveling and breast milk question

Thread Starter
We're going to a wedding today, (an hour out of town) I was planning on bringing some breastmilk in a bottle to feed him in case breastfeeding is super inconvenient at the time. Would it be okay to just bring some refrigerated milk with out ice packs and let it come to room temperature, and feed it then? ....or do I need to keep it chilled and then warm it up.

Thanks!

Dealing with the bottle would be "super inconvenient" IMO. Just wear something that is easy to nurse in discreetly, and fill up the baby good before the ceremony.

I agree with the PPs, but to answer your question... it should be fine. Fresh breastmilk can be at room temperature for ~10 hrs or so. Here's Kellymom's quick reference table: http://www.kellymom.com/bf/pumping/m...e.html#storage

That said, there isn't hard and fast data on this because there's such a variation from one mom's milk to another's. If you haven't done this before, I'd suggest playing it safe and using an insulated bag (though maybe not worrying about ice packs).

I just went to a wedding over the weekend and nursing during the ceremony was the only way to keep the baby quiet! I just draped a shawl that matched my dress over the both of us and then popped a breast out of my dress.

I've done it. My husband fed my child at my grandmother's funeral so that I could be attentive to the service. I pumped the night before (we were out of town and I didnt bring frozen) and he let it get to room temp and then fed her. 8 weeks postpardum, I had a hard enough time finding something to wear without having to make sure my boobs would be accessible.

I had the same issue when I attended a wedding 3 months PP. I could only fit one appropriate outfit that wasn't BFing friendly and this was during a blizzard. I pumped some fresh milk before leaving the house and thats what DD had at the reception.

I frequently let refridgerated/fresh milk go room temperature and she takes it just fine. It still smells fine after 3 hrs.
