Is there a "too late" date?

This is our first year growing anything other than potted tomatoes, and having a newborn has put a kink in our carefully laid plans. I didn't have a chance to put my peas in the ground a few weeks ago when i planned (zone 5), and am hoping to get a lot of stuff in the dirt this week. Do i just forgo the peas/early spring crops this year, or will they be okay even though they will be 'late'? Would it make a difference if I shade them?

It probably depends on how hot your summers get which isn't well represented by zone and I don't know your area well. I just planted my peas tonight in zone 4b and it is not particularly late for me although I could have planted 2 weeks ago.

It is possible your greens will bolt, but I would try anyway if you really want them

I would try a few.And also leave some for fall planting. I am a 5-6 zone and plant when I get a chance.I did not get corn last year when I planted in July, but they grew very tall and gave me the privacy I wanted. I replant things when the first plantings are getting closer to harvest time. You can set up some cold frames in the fall to help your fall crops.
