online pharmacies, no Rx

i had been taking 50mg of amitriptyline each evening for fibromyalgia. at the end of december i lost my job and thus my reimbursement account. i went to a walk in clinic once in jan or feb to get a Rx but i didnt realize the dr only gave me a one month supply until i picked up the bottle from walgreens and saw there were no refills.

i am in pain and i cant sleep and i am broke. its been months since i've had my meds. i am just not sure i can swing $80 for an office visit, even if i can convince the walk in clinic dr to write me 3 mo Rx. $80 every month or 2 or 3 plus the price of the Rx will add up.

has anyone had any btdt with online drugstores. are they even legal? i dont mean real legit ones like drugstore.com. i mean the kind from overseas which sell without a Rx. is it just really dumb of me to ask?

First, the doc should call in a refill or two without seeing you. Most docs do but I am not familiar with the med you are referencing--it is a narcotic or something?

Anyway, I have ordered from overseas pharmacies. If you have a prescription, as it stands now and as I understand it (not an expert so your mileage may vary) you can import medication.

However, no one ever seems to check to see if you have the RX. Usually what happens if Customs spots it, is they confiscate it and you never get it.

I used inhouse pharmacy and they would reship if meds never came.

It IS risky. You may not get good meds or they may be made in countries with different quality controls.

thanks for the info. i dont have insurance so after i lost me job and thus my health reimbursement account, the only thing i could afford was a walk in clinic. they dont know me there, and in fact, the nurse told me they dont Rx pain meds at all (they xray and set broken bones, though...) i had to explain to the nurse that what i take is a tricyclic anti depressant, not a pain med. its Rx off-label for fibromyalgia pain, but its not a narcotic. anyway, the clinic wont refill over the phone. i would have to spend $80/mo to get a $4/mo Rx. they wont give me 3 mos at a time.

i guess i wont order then, bc i cant afford to lose the money is the box is seized. that really sucks!

Usually you pay a lot for the service of getting it for Rx-free.
What about a free clinic? Or your previous doctor, not the walk in?

Can you get yourself set up with a new doctor who is not a walk-in? It's pretty typical to do 12 refills on a regular anti-depressant on a stable person. It might make sense to find a way to do a $200 new patient appointment if that sets you up for a year.

To clarify: You don't pay if it doesn't come. THey just reship.

Also, you should try calling your old doc and explain the situation to see if they'll give you some refills.

does your state or county have a medical coverage plan? For instance some states have a state sponored health coverage plan in which you pay according to your income. Even a county health clinic in your area may be more affordable to at least get the initial appt to get the refills.

I would try at least to contact your previous hcp, they one you saw prior to losing coverage and explain your situation. They may be more willing to work with you to get you at least a refill for now. Also if you do require a appt does your old hcp offer a private pay disount or reduced fee for say just a check in type appt?
