New York religious exemption...how hard is it really?

We currently live in Michigan and have a philosophical exemption for my ds. We initially started delayed/selective vaccination, then by 12 months ceased all further vaccines. We are looking to move away from this area for several reasons and my dh was contacted by a firm in upstate New York (Syracuse area). He went to the interview today just to see what they offer, etc. My question is how hard is it really to claim a religious exemption in New York? It seems that everything I am reading says it is virtually impossible without a court fight. So, any experiences shared would be greatly appreciated, since this is the only sticking point for us and an actual deal breaker. TIA!

I live in the Rochester area. Both my boys are in full time day care and I use a religious exemption for them. Some one I know has children who attend public school in BUffalo, and used to attend school in the Rochester area. They used religious exemptions for both of them as well. What I would suggest is definetly having a lawyer proof read your letter, one who is an expert in this area. I found one and if you need, I can proved his contact information. I have to other MDC mamas before. It cost me, but IMO, its worth it.

I think NYC is harder to get an exemtion for, their laws are a bit different then us in Upstate NY.

I think it depends on the school district also! My friend locally in East Syracuse Minoa district got her religious exemption to go through no problem... It was lengthy and she had a few people proof read it for her.

We homeschool so we don't have to worry about having an exemption!
