I think Michael could be great in that way, though...it's very familiar, but people aren't using it as much anymore. Yes, it's still high on the popularity charts, but with people always trying to pick unique names, the frequency of its use has actually gone way, way down:
This chart shows that, when our uncles and brothers were getting named (the 50s through the 80s), over 20,000+ per million boy babies were being named Michael. By 2009, less than 5000 per million boy babies were being named Michael.
Now look at
the Micah chart...the increase in popularity is almost exponential. In 2009, almost 900 per million boy babies were named Micah, and the popularity is rising fast.
There's something to be said for bucking the "unique" trend.
