Is the legs wide apart posture bad for development?

My husband thinks the carriers (really most of them)that have the babies legs open and wrapped around us are bad for the babies posture. Specifically the Ergo and even my stretchy wrap. He thinks legs together and forward is better (like the baby sitting on a little seat).

Anyone know anything pro/against this belief?

I had heard bad things about the Baby Bjorn... but never these other carriers.

Thank you!

An infant carried on a parent's hip with the child's hips bent and open wide is less likely to develop DDH.
Hip dysplasia is basically where the bones in the hip don't line up right. If left untreated, it can cause pain and difficulties in walking.

Look at how they recommend holding the hips for proper development. Looks a lot like how babies are in carriers, doesn't it?

Think about the positioning of a child's hips and legs when carried on the hip... pretty splayed out and a completely natural way of carrying children.

This is a great link providing research and commentary: http://www.storchenwiege.com/babycarrierresearch.htm
