for dd's teachers, i was thinking of making mini quick breads—if i can figure out how to reduce the baking time for the smaller pan

any other ideas? a snack mix in a ribboned jar, or....?

i am drawing a blank.

It's so hard to gift food with all of the intollerences, allergies, preferences, diets, lifestyles out there!

What about something healthy like vinegrettes in pretty dollar store bottles/jars etc. (This went over big for christmas. Everyone thanked me and told me how much baked stuff they throw away every year. )

I did a pomegranate vinegrette and a sun dried tomato one.

Flavored vinegars or herb infused oils would also be good.

I added a little note about suggested uses (for the sun dried tomato one I suggested that in addition to dressing a salad, it was super good on chicken! The pomegranate one was great for marinating beef, or wild game.)

i like this vinaigrette idea! i know the teachers are very health-conscious (and weight-conscious), and so hesitate about sweets. even healthful baked goods are still, perhaps, unwanted extra calories.

Exactly! There are tons of great recipes on the net, but if you want mine I'm happy to share.

I've also had good luck with flavored vinegars. I usually do basil/blueberry and hot pepper vinegar (just because that's what I have a lot of in the garden during that season). People seem to like them, though.

flavored vinegars sound like a great idea.
when i worked in a school, lots of kids gave food gifts, so a problem would be for the teacher receiving all those perishable type items all at once pre swimsuit time padding, whoa!
so, i'd go with the vinegars or maybe marinade type things, they look pretty in a bottle, or else bake something that will keep a little longer, like biscotti. those are good to give and fun to bake b/c you can flavor them differently and make them pretty!

we are giving either a strawberry plant or a basil plant from our garden to dd's teacher. She hasn't decided which yet.

I always loved getting those spoons dipped in chocolate (perfect for coffee) or homemade cocoa mix.
