ground cover options?

I have 6 small raised beds. 4 are on grass and 2 are on dirt. I have no idea what to do with the space between them. I want to put a small fence around all of them and then fill in all the ground space with... something. Any ideas?

Corsican mint is a fabulous and prolific ground cover. You can use it in teas or anything else you'd include mint. The scent is very subtle and pleasant, not strong like spearmint. Roman chamomile is another good ground cover, and also useful. Interestingly, this variety thrives when it is stepped on, so if you need to use it for a garden path it's perfect! There are plenty of other ground covers out there, but I like to choose ones that are multi-functional!

I know growing ground covers are popular, but where we are that would mean watering. Since I don't want to do that, I prefer either crushed granite or pea gravel. Cheeper, and natural, is straw, which you can also put down to prevent mud if you are hoping the grass will fill in.
