My youngest are 14 months apart. Honestly, it's been tough, but as DS 2 is more involved, it's actually a lot of fun. I'm really looking forward to the next few months as they really learn to play together.
I kept nursing throughout the pregnancy, but DS 1 did wean earlier than he would have had DS 2 not been so close. It's a sad reality I would like to change, but he really was no longer interested in nursing. By 20 months he preferred his liquids in a cup, and his meals on a plate.
DS 2 nurses all. the. time. He is super high-needs and that has made everything much more difficult. At the end of every day though, as I see them both growing and changing, I know that it is much easier now than it was when DS 2 was a newborn, and it will be exponentially easier going forward.
Ultimately- I love the close spacing, even though it is hard at times. You will get through it, and soon enough, you won't imagine your family any other way.
