Papaya enzymes-how much is safe?

What is the proper dosage of papaya enzymes during pregnancy? I'm trying to avoid rolaids and such for heartburn but it's pretty
vicious. Can I take more than 1 pill a day? How many is safe?

I hope someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I think papaya is really safe. I have taken as many as 4 at one time and had no problem. I don't take them all the time, tho. I have never seen any warnings on the label for pg/nursing women. And generally, if there is even the slightest concern, there will be a warning. I think you are fine taking them as needed.

Yeah my bottle says to take with food.. no warnings. I think its totally fine to take as many as you need (I mean.. don't take the whole bottle right now, I'm sure that will just make your stomach upset.)

Another one to try is slippery elm...the lozenges can help a lot with heartburn. I used to take the papaya enzyme but found that over time they no longer helped me.

The lozenges are great because as you suck on them they coat the whole mouth/throat/esophagus area and helps a LOT with HB. I had forgotten about that remedy, thanks!

I take at least 6 papaya tablets at a time, many, many times a day. They don't do much for me, though. I figure you can't OD on them any more than eating papaya. Slippery elm works better. You can buy Thayer's brand at a health food store or make you own. Just mix slippery elm powder with honey or agave and roll into little balls. Dry in the oven at low heat.
