what to do in the hospital?

I am going to ask my midwife about this too but I need some input. We are having a hospital birth with a CNM. This hospital does not use clothe and I doubt will allow me to bring mine though I am going to at least ask. What are some good options for the day or two we will be in the hospital? Especially with the dreaded meconium poo?

Most likely they won't care what you use, as long as you bring a wetbag and take the laundry home with you. They will probably provide a few disposables for the first day, which you might want to use since they will just throw them away anyway. I had no problem getting mec out of my cloth diapers.

I never used cloth in the hospital b/c I didn't want to come home with a BAG full of dirty dipes along with a newborn. We started cloth the day we all came home tho

I plan to start with the cloth as soon as I get home. Don't want to keep track of diapers on top of everything else in there....

We did disposables for the first few days. The newborn ones have the little scoop out for the umbilical cord & I didn't want to risk ruining mine with the meconium. As it turned out I was so destroyed after the birth I'm glad I made this decision. I just did not need anything extra to do - I could barely move (I had a 3rd degree tear).

We were going to bring cloth, but then didn't because I did not want to have to come home to laundry. Plus one of the many factors for using cloth is cost, so them buying the sposies didn't seem as bad (although it was probably itemized on my bill for $100 )

As for meconium in the cloth, we layed a piece of fleece in DDs diapers (homebirth) and then just threw them out after she poo'd.

I just bought a pack of Seventh Generation newborn diapers for the hospital. My baby will most likely have to go to the special care nursery, at least for a little while, and I know they won't deal with my cloth diapers there, but I figured I could just ask them to use the ones that I'm providing and they shouldn't have a problem with that.

The hospital can't say you can't use your cloth diapers if that's what you want...it's your baby...your choice as to what you want on his/her bottom.

I wouldn't mess with cloth for the hospital, I'd use their sposies, or ideally bring a safer brand of sposies. Seventh Generation is good, but Nature Babycare is better,...7th Gen still has the SAP gel, which isn't good for baby,...Nature Babycare does not.

I'll buy a pack of 7th generation newborn diapers. I still have 2 packs of swaddlers preemie from DS and wanted to use those, but the recent Pampers debacle led me to read more about ingredients in those and I'm donating those preemie pampers now, no mainstream brand shall touch my children's bottom again ever...
The new Swaddlers have the Drymax stuff too that is so bad, and all hospitals always hand out Swaddlers.
Too bad 7th Gen has no preemie size.... DS was small, I have PTL issues, so newborn is always gonna run big...
And lastly, I wouldn't worry about staining, if there's mec on my prefolds, oh well. I really don't care.

Thanks for the tips everyone! I know I can find 7th Generation around here but I have never heard of Nature BabyCare, any idea where I can find those? The fleece trick is a great idea too, I may do that.

When we had my son we cloth diapered in the hospital. We didn't ask we just had them and used them and no one told us we couldn't. We just made sure the cleaning lady didn't take them away when she came. My husband would run dirty diapers home once a day and bring clean ones back.
