What is the craziest craving you've had?

I normally don't eat meat and when I'm pregnant I crave it CONSTANTLY.

I was watching the Bizarre Foods show when I was pregnant with ds and they were eating lamb brains and I thought "Oh wow, that looks REALLY good!"

What's your weirdest craving?

vinegar and bread

Watermelon in one hand and a Claussen kosher pickle in the other. That was in my 1st pregnancy.

Two of them have been strange...one of which is straight-out gross.

1. Crackers with moz. cheese and Korean red pepper paste on top

2. Steak gristle/fat

Steak, steak, and more steak!! We're not a real red meat family, more veggie and chicken, but GOOD GRIEF have I wanted nothing more than a big marbled piece of cow. I was laying on the sofa watching TV at 1:30am last night and I got so hungry for a steak it was insane. We're a chicken house and I don't even remember the last time I had a steak. I've been fighting it the last week but I think tonight DH has to stop to get more organic milk and while he's there I'm going to have him get a couple grass-fed steer steaks. Cook them up in my good cast iron skillet with some butter and onions.....oh man. Apparently I'm protein or iron starved...I'm leaning on protein. Since my appetite hasn't been too good the last month it would make sense. We'll see what other odd things pop up once my appetite gets back to normal...

I normally HATE mint and chocolate together, but with DD I constantly craved mint chocolate chip ice cream. I downed it by the pint. After her birth...back to hating it. Weird.

With this one, lime peel. Yep, just the peel (or zest, if you're feeling foodie). I put it in everything for awhile. Taco meat, chicken soup, coke, water, stir fry, everything was heavily zested. I even ate lime zest on crackers and cheese one day. Thank goodness DH is a tolerant and non-picky eater. But he did start to wonder what to do with all the "naked" limes that piled up in the fridge. I think they mostly went to the compost pile. That craving has mostly passed, although as I write this I'm thinking it sounds pretty good...

When I was pregnant with dd#2, I craved jalepeno peppers.

Before being pregnant, I didn't even like anything spicy.

I craved them like nobody's business...my grandma was in the hospital at the time, and when I would go visit her, I had to drive near an Arby's. I would go through the drive-up, order some jalepeno poppers (fried jalepenos w/ cream cheese) and eat all the peppers out first.

Crazy. But oh so craving-satisfying.

White Castle cheeseburgers.

We don't even have White Castle here (except frozen at groceries). But something about the onions they use started a serious craving. And it was one of those out-of-the-blue ones.

Another out-of-the-blue was chocolate donut holes, like from Dunkin Donuts (which we have almost none of here, though I was in Philly recently and had some - and didn't like the chocolate ones!).

A lot of my cravings are influenced by stuff I see - birthday party pictures with a pile of french fries, a TV show where they're grilling high-quality steaks... VERY impressionable here.

When I pregnant with Nicholas, I called my husband at church and demanded he pick me up some Skippy peanut butter, marshmallow fluff, Wonder Bread, and a Yahoo. He actually refused.

Nothing really weird. I crave sushi all the time. At this point I could probably stand living off of white sticky rice with my favorite soy sauce eaten with chop sticks every single day for the rest of this pregnancy. Of course, that wouldn't sustain this hungry little guy nutritionally, but my taste buds would be satisfied. Other than that I'm craving all things unhealthy. Burgers and ice cream and chocolate. The other day I ate a chicken sandwich with just ranch and pickles on it. I thought that was pretty weird, but DP said it seemed like a normal thing to eat.

There's a marinade from KC Masterpiece that my DP and I just love called Carribean Jerk. We had that on chicken for dinner one night and there were leftovers in the fridge. I love chicken skin, so I pulled some of it off the chicken, chopped it into pieces, and stirred it into my boysenberry yogurt.

I also ate banana wafer pudding with pizza bites mixed in and roasted garlic spread on an oreo.

Old Donuts (you know the ones that are STILL at the grocery store at 8pm? Those)

I imagine it was the same look on my DP's face when he watched me eat that stuff

FYI, garlic on an oreo still tastes like an oreo. I was a little disappointed that there was no garlic flavor. But then I had been eating roasted garlic on crackers all day by the time I did that.
