Son is very dizzy and has a fever

DS (4 yo) woke up in the middle of the night and had to go to the potty, so I brought him into the bathroom. By the time he was done, he started saying he was dizzy. He ended up throwing up and then having a very fitful sleep. Today, he has been pretty much staying on the sofa, not playing or anything. He is also refusing to eat anything. He said that his tummy hurt, both last night and today.

When he got up to go to the bathroom just a few minutes ago, he made it there, but then started crying and saying he didn't want to be dizzy. He doesn't seem to be dizzy when he's sitting or laying down, just standing or walking.

I've asked him if his ears are hurting or bothering him, but he said they weren't. What else could be going on?

It sounds like either a sinus infection or dehydration. Possibly both.

I don't think he's dehydrated. He's been drinking about the same as usual, just not eating. He also does not have any congestion, but I'm not sure if he has a sinus infection. He's not complaining about anything in his sinuses.

He just told me that it feels like someone is spinning the house. If it gets much worse, I'm going to take him in to his ped.

If he's got a fever, has been throwing up, and isn't eating, he needs to drink a lot more than usual to stay hydrated. And he needs to drink something with some salt in it or it won't be absorbed properly. Drinking the same amount (especially if it's something without electrolytes) won't cut it.

Vertigo (a room-spinning sensation) isn't necessarily serious, but accompanied by a fever, vomiting, and lethargy, I think it warrants a visit to the doctor asap. He sounds very uncomfortable.

Sounds like vertigo and is most likely inner ear. I had that and my father and mother in law too. In all cases the doctor did something to help (meds for me and my father and my mother in law had some kind of something done to stop the things from moving). I don't know if they can help kids but knowing what it's like I'd take him in.

Ear infection? My dd started getting dizzy in January after a period of being sick, it progressively got worse, she woke up one night crying because her "room was moving". The next day she was unable to walk without falling. We took her in the doctor on day 2 of this and found that she had an ear infection, her ear never hurt during this process so we were surprised to find it infected.

After the course of antibiotics (we normally don't use them - ) she was fine.

I have some pedialite freezer pops that I'll give him right away. And, I can get him into the doctor's office tomorrow morning.

I've thought about a possible ear infection and he had a massive one in December. (It ruined his Christmas, even). His ear drum was perfed really bad and we were waiting to see if it would heal or need a patch. I'll talk to his doctor about it when I see her.

Also, in the last hour, he has developed liquid diarhea. If he gets worse before morning, I will take him to the ER. For now, he finally fell asleep and is taking a nap.

I think this deserves a trip to the doctor. Vertigo can be "no big deal" but since this is the first time and you have fever you might want to have him check out.
