Now I'm definitely running out of time and see the writing on the wall :-( Still, I've asked for that final 39 week check. I want to go into the c/s feeling like I've done all I could. Thank you everyone for your input and support. To the PP, yes, that's a great idea to have the measurement done with a quality u/s machine.
I think it is a great idea for a 39 week check with a quality machine.

I had issues as well and I was being checked for changes up to the end of my pregnancy.

Blessedwithboys, this is exactly my concern now. Last labor started at 39 weeks, 4 days spontaneously. The later date I've been given is 39, 4. A bit close for comfort, but it's too late to change to the earlier date now. I will be seeing my ob on Monday and hopefully they can get me in sooner. As many of you have said, it's not worth messing with labor starting when it's a placenta issue.

OP: Breathe. I know this is really scary, but remember that if labour does start before you're scheduled, you can get to a hospital asap. I have no doubt they'd get you into OR fast with a previa/potential previa on your chart.

It must be hard trying to balance the benefits of waiting longer with the possibility of serious problems.
