Total single mama I-CAN-DO-IT moment today! I realized today that I had more vacation than I had plans and was wishing I had something fun to do with DS other than just take a few days off and stay home or go see my parents. I thought about camping, but really wasn't jumping up and down with excitement.
Thought I might mooch along with my parents for a few days on a little trip they're taking this summer. But I started looking into cabin rentals (thinking about next year). And I found a total steal! So DS and I are booked for a week in the woods. It's not on the lake, so it's a lot cheaper, and it's also not a real for-profit thing. Just a family subsidizing their cabin by renting it out a bit. I don't have a boat, so lake isn't necessary...and there's a little river right next to the cabin to keep DS busy.
So we're doing a vacation in the woods for a week later this summer! Hooray!!
It's the kind of vacation that would probably annoy STBX because I have no intention of DOING anything but let DS explore and maybe drive over to the big beach a few times. Actually, we'd have never attempted it together because we were always recovering from him losing a job or going on weekend trips for his hobby.
I'm so looking forward to this!!! No cell phone. It's between classes, so zero responsibility. Just hanging in the woods soaking up trees. Teach DS how to roast marshmallows and let him collect as many sticks as he can carry. :-D

When DS gets a little older, it might be better to go somewhere with people. But I figure that while he's little, we can just hang out and explore on our own. Even the kitties get to come!
