High needs

Im sitting here kind of laughing to myself.

I read the term High Needs on here ALOT. I have always said to myself, I bet you Matthew is prolly high needs.

Well, not really sure what got me to do it, but I googled High needs baby, and Dr. Sears website was the first to pop up. And lo and behold......Matthew was, by definition, a high-needs baby. And for sure he is now considered a high-needs child/toddler. Its just kinda funny that after all this time, I finally allowed myself to believe it.

So, to all you mamas out there with 3 and 4 year old High needs children (Who were also high needs babies) what can I expect? Should I get my tubes tied now? I kid.

I so very vividly remember the moment that I found that website and the information on high needs babies when DS was about 8 months old. It is about the only clear moment from his infancy, actually. I hadn't really heard the term before, and I wasn't sure it applied to him, but that moment was a total epiphany for me.

And I am finding, as he grows, most of what Dr. Sears predicts about his personality is true. He is empathetic and sensitive to other peoples' emotions (sometimes to a fault). He is passionate about the things he enjoys. He is enthusiastic about life. He is only 3 and I am totally amazed at the beautiful personality he has. He is also incredibly stubborn, easily frustrated, and drives me absolutely up the wall sometimes.

So I say don't get your tubes tied . The baby that made me want to jump off a cliff sometimes is such a joy as a toddler. And I really am seeing that all the intense time I put in meeting his needs has really paid off. He is still intense (and gosh, I wish he would sleep!) but he is so inquisitive, talkative, and joyful.

Thank you.

It is amazing, but he is already SUCH a ham!!!! He has been babbling since almost birth (something his brother never did til now ), and the trouble this kid already gets into. He LOVES to turn the TV off while we have it on and are watching something, and thinks its a freaking RIOT that we dont like it. It can go on forever, he turns it off, and turns and runs in the other direction as fast as he can before his brother gets to him, laughing the entire time. Sneaky little devil .

And when he wants something, OH THE TANTRUMS!!! hes only 1.5, and this has been going on for a while. But when hes ready to be lovey, oh the loveiness. IT can all be so bittersweet sometimes.

OH, and sometimes he sleeps like a ROCK, and other times hes up til 3am screaming for no obvious reason, and NOTHING we do can make him stop. . And believe me, we try!
