My sweet LO will have nothing to do with his summer wardrobe. He only wants to wear long sleeve shirts and pants. It will likely be 80 today. I have not fought him on it (we had warm weather a month ago). I know he is being independent, but I don't want him to get heat stroke this summer. Please if you have any idea's I would love to hear them.

I went through this with my son the spring he turned two-- the warm weather came, and he refused to stop wearing his winter coat. It made sense-- as far back as he could remember (a few months) he'd ALWAYS worn his coat when he went outside, and why all of a sudden was I asking him to stop doing that-- he just couldn't understand. Anyway, we decided to roll with it, and after a few weeks he all of a sudden turned to me one day (with sweat pouring off his face) and said, "I'm hot," and I said, "that's because it's too hot to wear that coat," and he asked me to take it off. But it took an emormous amount of patience on my part to get that far.
Chances are he's either just conservative about new things (and a whole new set of clothes might seem intimidating to him when he's gotten so used to the other ones) or he's feeling weird about his arms and legs being uncovered. Either way, I don't think anything bad is going to happen if you just let him be. If he's hot enough to be in any kind of real danger, he'll be hot enough to feel very uncomfortable, and he'll be easier to persuade, then. And chances are if you just keep offering the new clothes, gently, without pushing, he'll come around soon.

I cut the sleeves of most of Lina's shirts. Of course, it was because I was annoyed that the shirts fit except for the 3/4 length sleeves and I didn't like that she had 10 long sleeved shirts and like 3 t-shirts.
But it might be worth cutting the sleeves of one shirt and seeing if he'll wear that.

Just take lots of water with you everywhere, and maybe introduce one new thing occasionally? ie. "Hey DS, look at this shirt!! Isn't it COOL??" Especially if they have some of his favorite things on them - my DS loves anything fire trucks so a shirt with a fire truck would be the greatest thing EVER to him.

Also, a lot of stores sell the pants that can be rolled and buttoned into shorts or capris, or with zippers around the knees. You could start him in those and then see if he wants to try rolling them, etc. Maybe take him to the store and let him pick a couple of tees that suit his interests. Otherwise, the advice on waiting it out seems excellent and he will certainly come around when he gets uncomfortable enough.

I did this with ds when he was younger. It works, and they don't get upset about it. Out of sight, out of mind.

Thought I would post an update. So..
Out of sight out of mind-
No, tried it last month.
When he gets uncomfortable he will see the light-
No he just glugged down more water.
Buy new light weight long sleeves and pants.
He said "No new ones" Truck shirt!!! Pants.
What worked? I wouldn't believe it, but. After waiting over a week DH came home and forced him out of his favorite red sweat suit. Thats right he wants to wear a sweat suit and it's 85 degrees. He cried, and refused to wear anything. We went through this last month and I am
. So he spent last night naked. Today naked, until Dad went out to walk our dog, finally he chose to put on shorts. Not my way, but this time Dad's intuition is front and center.

When it's 90 and he complains of being hot you can just casually mention that shorts and a t-shirt would be more comfortable and let him make the decision.
