I'm in search of some whole food post workout food ideas
From info I have read it's very important for muscle rebuild to get sugar/carbs and protien but NOT fat and fiber after a high intestity workout. I'm feeling really draged down after my high intesity workouts latety. Usually I just have a regular meal after working out. For instance last nights after work out dinner was:
Grilled pork chop
baked potato (plain)
green beans
apple
tea (with sugar)

I'm thinking I might need a quick pick me up snack and just eat a meal in an hour or so when I get back from the gym. This is usually solved by people drinking protein shakes. Several reasons why this will not work for me:
-I'm Gluten, dairy and soy free
- I can't afford it
-I try my hardest only to eat whole foods

SO what that leaves me thinking is a quick, whole foods snack, ideas?
Bananas are high in sugar and easily digested but what protien?
Nut butters are good protein and quick/easy but are high in fat?

I have lost a lot of weight, it's been a battle and now I'm trying to keep it off while trying to change my deit making it allergy free.
If you read all that thanks and I apriciate any advice.
sorry for typos kids talking to lady with a head ache

You're right. The best time to eat carbs is right after a workout from what I've read, as well as some protein.

I would make a smoothie with banana/berries etc. and throw in 2 or 3 eggs. If you are not ok with eating raw egg I would just coddle them first.

I was hoping to take said snack to the gym, but good idea. I live 30-40 mins from my gym and want to eat as soon after working out as possible, expecally since I usually shower before coming home.

Chocolate milk. Seriously, carbs, protein, fat all in one tasty portable snack.

Oh, so sorry. I missed that you are gluten/dairy/soy free.

How about nuts and dried fruit?

Rice cake with nut butter?

Hard boiled egg and fruit?

Small turkey sandwich with gluten free bread?

Veggie omelet?

Thought of another -- tuna salad

A can of tuna, bit of honey mustard, chopped apple/onion/celery, toss in a few raisins and you would be pretty close to ideal.

I'll have to take a look at chocolate syrup and see what it has in it, sounds tempting. I could make it with almond or coconut milk. I wonder what tuna salad on apple slices would taste like...
