Red Spots on Chest?

I just discovered 5 red spots on my DS chest this afternoon while changing his outfit for the day. They aren't like pimples or raised but red round marks that start near the middle and kind of curve to his left arm pit. He's been acting funny at night as well so I'm wondering if this is the culprit. He has been waking every 2- 2 1/2 hours just crying and doesn't calm down until I feed him and even then in the morning he'll unlatch and keep crying like something is really bothering him. I'm giving him hylands tablets for teething so I don't think that's why and then all of a sudden these marks. Anyone have an idea of what they could be or has anyone had this experience? TIA!

Hives?

Does he have food allergies or sensativities that your aware of? Even if your just nursing, if hes allergic to something YOUR eating, he could still break out. WOuld also explain the fussiness.

A lot of kiddos here are getting chicken pox... that often starts with spots on the midsection. My own ds is being treated for impetigo, and my dd1 has eczema with food triggers (even through breastmilk). There could be a number of reasons for the bumps and fussiness... allergies (food or topical, like soap/lotion/clothing), eczema, yeast overgrowth, impetigo, chicken pox or roseola (generally a high fever followed by a rash), etc. If it doesn't clear up soon or if it spreads you may want your care provider to take a look.

And if you have a strong stomach check out the pediatric conditions pictures here.

what kind of PJs is he wearing? sometimes polyester bothers babies and some need 100% cotton sleepers.

I was going to say something about his pjs, too. Is there a tag rubbing him or something?

Thank you for all the replies! I'm not sure why but the next time I went to change him to spots were gone. In hindsight the only thing I can figure is that he drooled all over his previous outfit and that must have irritated him before I got the chance to change his outfit. Other than that I don't know - just glad it's gone. Thanks again!

I hate to alarm you, but my friend had the same situation and it turned out to be bedbugs.

She noticed these bites and found out later that linear bites that fade are often associated with bedbugs. They only feed once a week or so too so it comes and goes. It might also explain night waking too.

I really hope it is something different.

If they're really small spots, it could be heat rash. My daughter gets it on the front of her chest underneath her chin if she's been dressed too warmly--it also corresponds to the drool/spitup spot.

When confronted with weird skin things, I try to come up with as many possibilities as possible and then use google images to see actual pictures of them.

Stacey- the link I gave above actually provides a sort of "image encyclopedia" of conditions. It's a GREAT resource to bookmark. Though like I said, it's not for everyone. It's too easy to convince yourself that you have every single condition!

My DD gets heat rash that comes in goes, she has heat sensitive skin like her mama. I see that they were gone the next time you changed him, I've seen drool spots like that on DD's chin as well.

wombatclay thanks for the link, I've bookmarked it!
