Called hospital for VBAC policy...

So although I do not plan to try for VBAC at the local hospital (where I ended up with a c/s due to ftp), I decided to call to just see IF they even allowed VBACs.

I spoke with the head of the maternity ward. She said that VBACs are allowed, although that is not their general practice. It is up to the OB. I asked if she knew of any local OBs that attend VBACs. She said no, not really, at least not any "elective VBACs."

So it looks like it is possible to have a VBAC there, as long as it is an emergency VBAC.

Wow, "elective VBAC's!" That's quite amuzing to phrase it like that, but with their lack of support and rather, "if it happens", that's such an appropriate way to describe it!

I guess women who come in pushing are the only ones that VBAC there then huh???

"elective VBAC" what does that mean?!??! They will only let you VBAC if it is an "oops" VBAC!?!?

Have you spoken with your local ICAN chapter?

"It is up to the OB."

LMFAO. Yup, it's up to the OB whether or not you consent to have your stomach sliced open for no good reason.

Enjoy your VBAC!

That sounds like a de facto ban. They don't ban it, but they don't have docs willing to provide care for a woman choosing it. ICAN keeps a database of hospitals' stances on VBAC. You should check their website and see if your hospital needs updating.
