Spin Off: What is everyone doing for birth control

What is everyone doing for birth control if/when they DTD again?
With DD1 I got a Mirena IUD after birth and it was great, I was planning to do that again but now I am having some prolapse issues and want to wait a few months before getting one.
I brought up the idea of the mini pill to DH but he is doubting its effectiveness since we are quite fertile (got pregnant on the 1st try both times).
He would never go for NFP either and doesn't really buy the whole BFing prevents ovulation thing. He hates condoms and would rather go without than use them.
I feel seriously at an impasse.
What is everyone else doing?

We'll do temp taking and NFP, combined with some pull and pray.

I don't want to get pregnant for a little while so that the new babe can enjoy nursing...with this pregnancy my milk totally dried up right away. I also don't want to feel sick for 9 months again anytime soon. But at the same time I already have some *serious* baby fever...so if forces beyond our control were to arrange an accidental conception it certainly would not be the end of the world....

We haven't really talked about it yet. I am highly, highly irregular--I didn't bleed at all last year but obviously ovulated. I imagine I'll just track fertility like I did to get pregnant. I think we'll try for #2 next year anyway.

I gotta be the one to say it... NOT HAVING SEX! ha ha ha.

seriously, though, I am "cleared for take off" in the next week or two, whenever I feel up to it. but I can't imagine where we'd get the time/ privacy/ energy currently. hopefully that will change in the next few weeks.
for us, condoms were great until we wanted to get pregnant. however, we did get pregnant on the very first try and only want this one babe, so I imagine we'll be extra careful and then start talking vasectomy in the next year or so.
I know it sounds crazy to do it fairly quickly after the baby's birth, but, honestly, as much as I love DD and am grateful to have this pregnancy+birth+baby experience, we are pretty clear on only ever wanting one, and when I think that my hormones might make me forget how intense and exhausting this all is, I am extra certain that we should take care of it soon!!

We'll probably do condoms if my DH drags his heels with the V. I'm pretty fertile though so that makes me nervous.

Looking at Nicu discharge papers?

Seriously, OvaCue.

LNF, if that one of the NFP programs/gadgets?

I'd have ten babies in as many years before using hormonal birth control. That stuff scares me.
Before DD, we used condoms and NFP. Between DD and DS, Dh insisted on using condoms (which I HATE!); the one time we didn't use them at what I calculated to be ovulation-time... we got (planned) DS. So, I'm hopeful that Dh will have a little more confidence in my abilities in the tracking dept. and not insist on the condoms all the time. Did I mention how much I hate them?

As of now, we've been "active" w/ no BC since 2.5 weeks postpartum. I was counting on at least a few months of ovulation inactivity due to nursing, but now I'm not sure what's going on. I'm planning to pull out my NFP book this next week.

Got my Mirena put in yesterday. I never had much in the way of issues with hormonal BC, so that's why I decided to go that route.

not wanting hormonal BC. but unless dh agrees to V now, i am thinking depo. and practicing abstinence until that time.

MPP, it's an idiot proof NFP gadget. It relies on electrolyte spike 5-7 days before ovulation, so you have that much advance warning.

Here's more info!

And we are quite certain I managed to ovulate at 7 days post partum. Ovulatory pain, temp into post ovulatory range, lochia changing from almost non existent and brown to very small amounts of bright red spotting and my radical milk oversupply problem gone overnight. I give up on my freaking ovaries.

That's us. It's worked really well for us. We've never had a baby unless we didn't umm...pull.

I thought we were done. But now I'm not sure. I had such an amazing pregnancy, an awesome birth, etc. that I keep thinking maybe we'll do one more. Even my dh is on board for one more at some point. We'll have to see where we are in a couple of years. But that does make anything too permanent not an option right now. I won't do hormonal birth control so that's not an option either.

NFP and the "pull and pray" method resulted in two kids

I didn't get AF back for 20 months with my first, so I have a bit of time to convince DH that NFP really does work.

Hormonal birth control hates me, and the copper IUD made me crazy nutso.

So we're probably going to chart and temp, maybe use condoms (though DH hates them). I'd like to get an OvaCue, but I'm not sure how cost-effective it is because DH is getting a V right after his 31st birthday (just over 2 years from now).

We made a pact before we got married that we would be done having kids by the time DH hits 30. Sooo.... I need to have #3 conceived (and preferably born) by DH's 31st birthday. Which gives us about 15 months or so. I wanted a little more space between Nomi and #3, but 15 months will have to do. And let's be serious, her birth was so spectacular that I'd do it again tomorrow if it wasn't for Nomi getting at least one year of nursing before I get pregnant again.

I am not sure yet. DH has an appt for a vasectomy consult (our ins requires the consent to be signed at least 30 days before the actual surgery) in early June. Even with me being almost 35 and DH being almost 38 and having four kids, I am not sure I want one of us to make a permanant decision yet so I considering Mirena. I dislike having to remember pills And don't really like some of the other options so I am considering Mirena. I will be making an appt soon with the OB to discuss it. Until then, we probably just won't be having sex, but I'm also only about 3.5 weeks postpartum and
not in much of a rush to have any sort of activity soon.

Well, I have two pill babies, so I'm not trusting hormonal birth control. IUD freaks me out since we are hyper fertile and a IUD pregnancy really scares me. Condoms irritate my vagina (even the expensive kind), and by the rules of NFP Becky shouldn't have been conceived when she was (we were trying for her, but thought that month was a bust because we completely missed the window). Sooooo.... I don't know. We had planned for DH to get snipped after this pregnancy, and that's still an option, but I'm not sure either of us are sure we're donedone, so we're waiting. I usually get to the year mark before I start ovulating again, so right now we're in pray and pull mode. No decision in making a decision I guess, and I'm reallyreally hoping we aren't the first to post a positive test on ehre. Oh man.

I want that OvaCue monitor so badly! Too bad I won't have $249 to spend on it anytime in the foreseeable future.

wooooow ovacue

i bet i could buy it w/ my HSA money...

otherwise, we're a combo of TCOF (NFP) and pulling out too! i had no idea so many people use pulling out. seriously, for most of our 15+ yrs having sex, pulling out and my "educated" guessing on timing have been our primary methods. i've always been regular in my cycles, but only got into temping a few months before we started TTC. we were almost sure we'd find out we had fertility issues...

we both hate condoms , and since i got an ovarian cyst 3 months after i started the pill waaaaay long ago, i've never used hormonal bc!

I'm glad this came up. I'd been struggling with this issue. Whatever I use, it needs to be able to be used while nursing... I don't want to use hormone birth control, but we don't like condoms... and nfp is fiddly. So am thinking of the IUD, depo or spermaside.

We use the fertility awareness method (charting + condoms during fertile time). We have been using this method for over four years now both for prevention & conception so we know it works for us. After dd1, until I got my period back, I think dh pulled out b/c he did not want to use condoms (neither of us like them). This time, though, I know our third is coming via adoption, so I really don't want to get pregnant. The first trimester is so hard for me that I said dh was getting the big V after this baby, but now I'm not so sure. I feel v fulfilled having been pg twice & I would like to get my reduction already, but I think I could go again. It would be quite a badge to have 2 natural BAC's, I think, but idk how I would deal w/ that first tri w/ three kids, oy.. I think it will get revisited after our third is here, no need to make permanent decisions right this second
