Cat breathing fast and shallow *update post #3*

Sorry this rambles all over the place I am not thinking the clearest in the world right now

I took my 16yo cat Stimpy to the vet. Tuesday for a checkup with blood work. The blood work showed her to be healthy for her age but the numbers that show kidney issues where starting to rise out of the 3 things they check for kidney failure 1 was normal 1 was high normal and the other was about 10 pts above normal.

I took her in because I felt she was a bit unsteady on her feet and had lost weight and with her age I wanted to make sure her kidneys where not going. The vet said she was in good shape for her age and while the numbers where off some she wasnt in kidney failure yet.

I told her my concerns and about how she had lost most of her molars and that she had some tarter removed that was making her gums sore 2 months ago. She had lost weight then as well but after removing the tarter she gained back. Now she is down again. What she could see of her mouth looked OK but she really didnt get a good look since Stimpy was very upset and restraining her was difficult.

The vet gave her a steroid shot and abx to give her at home because her gums where red. And in case she had a gum infection again.

I went in a bit ago to give her a dose of abx and she is in distress with her breathing. Very fast and shallow and her gums dont look quiet as pink as they should.

Could the steroid or abx cause this? I decided not to give her a dose of abx since she was already distressed and I didnt want to add to that.

I know I need to take her to the vet tomorrow but the timing couldnt be worse. Dh hurt his knee and cant walk and wont be able to go back to work until it resolves and that puts us in a major bind financially.

I knew something wasnt right with her but I thought the kidney thing explained it and expected to loose her in the coming months but I was not expecting the breathing thing.

I am very distraught at the thought of her suffering and I know she is scared not being able to breath properly but there is nothing I can do and it hurts

I will keep an eye on her all night and tomorrow and I pray she improves.

Anyone else wanting to send and prayers her way that she dosnt suffer, gets better please do so.

Taking her into the vet just isnt possible at this time because of $ issues

check her colour-is it pink? when you press on her gums do the quickly turn back to pink?
If it is pale/blueish or grey she may be low on oxygen/in shock/anemic

She sounds like she is uncomfortable/in pain.

If you can't do an Emerg Vet then keep her as comfy as possible and monitor her breathing/energy levels. An extremely fast pulse can be showing a very dire situation.

Have you had radiographs (chest especially) done?

Thank you all for your thoughts and support. It seems so weird to not have her she was a part of my life for so long a piece is missing but I know she is in a better place now and I look forward to seeing her again some day at the Rainbow Bridge along with all the other pets that have went before her.
