is it possible?

I had my son Sept 09 and we are trying for our 2nd. With my son, I went off bc in November, had a period at the end of the month and Dec tried and we found out we were expecting around Christmas. I was pumping for the last 8 months, had a period every month every 28 days apart (very normal) and tried to conceive each time on days 12-14 with no luck. I am chalking it up to homrmone levels as the reason why we have had no luck. is it possible that i just wasnt releasing any eggs though i still had a period? And now that im done pumping ( stopped may 10th which was also first day of LMP.) have i had enough time to let the hormone levels decrease so we can try again in a few days and maybe have some results?

I have had periods every 27-28 days for the last year when not pregnant BUT I ovulate later, and my luteal phase (the time in between ovulation and period) is shorter due to nursing so I ovulate around cycle day 18 with a 10 day LP. If you are doing the same (though now that you stopped pumping, you might find your cycle lengthens out) it is possible that you need to keep having sex longer because if you are ovulating on, let's say, day 18 like I am, then doing the deed on days 12-14 still puts you 4-6 days out fron ovulation and isn't great timing. I would keep having sex from CD12-20 - you can do it every other day if you want, but just cover your bases that way

Hth!

You might want to chart/temp to see when you are ovulating. I agree with the pp - you could be ovulating on CD21 and totally missing your window.
If you don't want to temp perhaps pick up some OPKs?
are you checking CM and are you getting some around 12-14?

I agree with kalamos23. Even with a 28-day cycle, you may ovulate later than CD14. A CD18 ovulation, for instance, would be pushing the lifespan of sperm if babymaking only occurs between days 12 and 14.

You may want to try charting (if you don't already) to get an idea of when you ovulate.

Good luck!

Just agreeing with the above posters and saying that even when I had a 26 or 27 day cycle, I was ovulating later than that. It was almost always day 15 or 16. Now my cycle appears to have changed since I had my IUD removed, and I'm not sure what day I'll ovulate on, but I'm assuming about day 16 or so. It isn't that far out of the window if you're having sex on day 14, but your chances would be a lot better if you timed it for the day before and the day of ovulation.

I guess im new to this cause the first one was so easy to predict! Im bad at remembering to take my vits every day and with a 8 month old, i know i'lll have a hard time charting. Money is tight so OPK maynot be next to car payments.

finnegansmom- i do check and its right on course with day 12-14 getting that slippery wet consistency.

thanks all for the advice.
We are trying but not in a rush to have another so i think we will try the overwhelming advice to try days 14 and on to see if that brings us luck. I believe part of our problem is that i relied on those two, maybe 4 days 12-16, for results. Now i know and we'll starting hitting the sheets more often the second half rather than the first half! i had a gut feeling i was pregnant 5 days after conception the first time around so im sure i will know when it does happen the next time.

bumbblehorse, I know what you mean about things being hectic with a little one. My son is 12 months old. If you do want to give temping a try, here's what I do:

I set my alarm for the earliest time I think he will wake up for the day (7:15, in my case). If he wakes up during the night for a snack or whatnot, it really doesn't affect my temperature reading as long as there's a large enough gap (a couple of hours) between this and my alarm. In the last week, he's been waking up around 5-6AM really hungry (but then falling back asleep after eating, thank goodness), which isn't optimal, but my temps still don't seem too weird. If he continues waking so early, I might set an earlier alarm.

As for vitamins, I just make a habit of swallowing them after finishing my breakfast.

well we decided that we will continue trying this week into next and see if that works. i'll give it a few months before i chart. ive been better at taking my vits. i take one when i eat breakfast. My husband asked me why am i still taking them. well i have a huge bottle left of them and why not! what harm is it to take them even if im not pregnant yet! duh!
