My 6 year old twins had bad acid reflux when they were born, they both now have 8 cavities each, don't know if this was the cause. they started complaining of sensitivity so I took them to the dentist who did a pulpotomy on a couple of molars each, about 3 weeks later they both developed a swelling full of puss on the side of the molar. He prescribed antibiotics and they have never been on them don't really want to start now. Do I have a choice? The dentist popped the bump to drain and it refilled. What else can I give to fight this infection, I'm so upset that I took them to the dentist. I have them doing mouth washes with salt and water, peroxide and I tried GSE. My girls are usually happy and now have been miserable and cranky because of it. Help.

I agree with alegna....and this is coming from someone who avoids antibiotics like the plague. My kids have avoided them so far, but if I were in your shoes I wouldn't hesitate to give them. Tooth infections are nothing to mess with, especially if your girls are in pain. Large doses of sodium ascorbate may help fight the infections some, but I think in this case you still need the antibiotics.
Get a good probiotic and so lots of immune boosting stuff in the meantime. Good luck mama!

thank you! just upset to put them on those antibiotics, but I when there is a real need I guess I have to. I can't believe that the dentist told me the infection could have been there before he did the work, which I don't believe because other than the cavities they did not have any other problems other than some sensitivity. I wonder though what they are lacking that my twins have gotten cavities and three of my other children have very healthy teeth.
Hoping we can avoid them getting those molars pulled out.

Coming in late to this thread, but I wanted to say that I also think that this is definitely a situation that warrants giving them the antibiotics. And I know you didn't ask about this, but (as someone who has dealt with some pretty nasty tooth pain) I think this is a case where I would give painkillers (Tylenol?) as well. I find bad tooth pain to be very difficult to live with. FWIW I am a mama who feels VERY strongly about avoiding antibiotics unless absolutely necessary, and I also avoid painkillers for myself and my kids unless I feel like it's very necessary.

Update, we did the antibiotics (hated giving it). Only did one round (doc wanted me to do 3). Gave probiotics, gave them Vit C drinks and some veggie smoothies, they gargled 3x a day with GSE and peroxide and dh and I popped the puss sac and squeezed out all the puss. (they learned how to squeeze out themselves, I have very brave twins
