How do you meet other newer moms for baby socialization?

I've been a SAHM with my 11 mo old and getting to the point where it's important for him to have some contact with other babies. He's been going through a stranger anxiety phase, so I need to gradually do socialization with him. I don't want to do any type of day care situation as it would be too overwhelming for him at this point (and for me)!

I don't belong to any clubs, churches, etc and all my friends have had their kids years ago. I waited until I was in my early 40s.

So, how do you meet other moms with babies?

I started going to playgroup 2x a week last winter... Around here (middle of nowhere), theres one run through Help Me Grow and another through the local MRDD school, both in the mornings from 10-11:30am. There free, and lots of fun. A good place to start might be your local library - they probably have lapsit/story time at least a couple times a month and you can ask other moms at that Good luck!!

I met several moms through my hospital's breastfeeding support group, and as our babies got older and more mobile, we created a group on Meetup.com and have had a few more moms join us. We meet every Friday, and it's a great group of moms and babies!

Not free but it's working for our 1-year-old: Gymboree. She has a blast every time she goes. The financial commitment is month-to-month so if you're on a budget you can try it as a short-term option until you find something else.
