I was going to decline the 1 hour glucose test this time (I have no risk factors) but I decided to go ahead with it to avoid a confrontation (wimp, I know)
So my midwife calls and tells me that I scored a little high. They like to see 130 and below, my numbers were 143. Now they want me to do the 3 hour one and I am NOT happy about this for a number of reasons:
1. I think 143 is not very high above the cutoff at all (could use opinions about this)
2. I have no other risk factors- i have never been overweight, my current weight gain and fundal height measurements are right on track, there is no glucose in my urine and my last baby was 5lb 7oz, no gestational diabetes with that pregnancy.
One the one hand I want to go ahead and do it to "prove" I am fine and not be hassled by the hospital where I will be giving birth. On the other hand, I want to refuse it because I think it is just pointless, expensive, and what if my levels aren't to their liking? Not high but doesn't meet their arbitrary cutoff? I guess I just need some advise and some opinions on how at risk I really am for this. FWIW, I was 5' 3" and 116lbs before I got pregnant and have only gained about 25 lbs, I gained 40 lbs with my last one.
