I'm assuming this shouldn't be hard to find...

We are moving in June...we will only be about 1 1/2 hours away from our current ped if we have to stick with her...but we are moving from Denver Colorado to Boulder Colorado, so I'm assuming it shouldn't be hard to find a foreskin friendly ped in boulder, it's much "crunchier" for lack of a better word there.

Other things...I'm breastfeeding my 1 year old still, my now 7 year old nursed till she was 4, so that is a definitely possibility, so extended breastfeeding has to be ok. We do vax, but it is very delayed and quite selective. I think that is about it that matters, we also co-sleep, gentle discipline, but I really don't care what my peds opinion is on those things.

You should x post this in the finding your tribe part of the forum I hope you can find a good Dr.

You shouldn't have too much trouble. I agree, xpost in finding your tribe. We use centennial valley peds in louisville. So far they have been excellent about intact DS, but I do remind every.single.time not to retract. We also nurse and don't vax at all.

Contact those at Colorado NOCIRC. They have some members in that area who could provide leads.

Hi, I live in Boulder and am with Colorado NOCIRC. My kids are grown, but I work in a hospital nursery, so know certains groups of peds and family practice docs. Surprisingly, for the Boulder area, I cannot say that there is any doc or practice that stands out as being particularly foreskin friendly. But most of them express approval of whatever the parent wants, i.e. are theoretically fine with a parent choosing not to circumcise (as opposed to pushing circumcision outright, although they all do circumcisions if the parent wants them too), but that doesn't necessarily mean they know that much about intact penile care. E.g. I went to a talk by a pediatric urologist at our hospital, at which most of these docs were attending. One pediatrician asked a question about a 9 month old patient of hers who was ballooning, and the urologist advised her to put steroid cream on it, and everyday to push back on the foreskin "till it was tight and shiny, till one day it will just pop out." He said this needed to be done becuase "ballooning will lead to infections" because of the urine getting trapped inside the foreskin. So all these docs were getting this as the god's truth about the intact penis, so I don't have high hopes that they are very enlightened.

I do find that the family practice doctors seem to be more likely to not circumcise their own children, as opposed to the pediatricians that I know. (Of course, there are other pediatricians' groups that I do not know, so that may not be a general rule.) I do know of a holistic health family practice doc in Boulder named Paul Berger (Boulder Holistic Medical Center, 805 S. Broadway Suite 103, Boulder [Table Mesa area]) with an intact son, and very into supporting natural healing modalities.

I do know a couple peds I would definitely NOT recommend either because they are very pro-circumcision, or have parenting philosophies that are anti-AP. Write me if you want to ask for those names.

You might think of a list of questions that would help you find foreskin-friendly docs. You could ask: Did you circumcise your own sons? Do you perform circumcisions? What do you recommend regarding care of the intact penis? How often do you find you need to refer intact boys for circumcision?

Good luck, and welcome to Boulder!
Gillian
