best comprehensive canning book rec?

I am set on learning to can this summer and at least making a lot of tomato and peach products. I have a friend who is willing to demonstrate the process to me beginning to end, but I feel like I need a good solid book resource to refer to.

I want a book that tells about the principles, the process, the basics, harder stuff (like pesto?) for when I get braver, and LOTS of recipes, please!

So what is your favorite canning book? Give me a review on your favs.

Well, theres the basic ball blue book of home canning which has all the basics in it and is great. If your looking for more tried-and-true, safety tested recipes I also have (and love!) the ball complete book of home preserving, which has *TONS* of recipes, and most all of them that I've made thus far have bee great

Good luck! Canning is very, very rewarding!! I haven't bought jelly or jam in a couple of years now - its really so easy and so much better than anything from the store!!

I agree. Ball is the one to get.

I have the Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving and like it. It has tons of recipes and all the basic info you need to get started. I also have the smaller Ball Blue Book. It has all the info to get started and several recipes, but many fewer than the Complete Book.

I'd also love to get Putting Food By.

Okay, so the top two are Ball and Putting Food By.
