Tying on a flat (no fastener)?

I've been reluctant to give DS much nakey bum time lately, as he tends to pee on the living room carpet (we're way off the EC wagon here). He is 13 months, and has been walking for a few months now - very mobile, speedy, and busy little guy. I just tried to let him go coverless in a prefold, but he undid the Snappi. I don't trust pins...I think he'll get them open. I've been trying to rig a flat to stay on him by tying the wings at the stomach and tucking up the crotch part, but the crotch part keeps falling open (so it becomes a belt of diaper with a triangle hanging down behind his legs...NOT helpful).

Anyone have a slick way to tie a flat onto a mobile baby/toddler so it stays on?

Maybe this? You could always get locking pins, they are harder to get unfastened... really I fight with the diaper pins that don't have locking heads. I wouldn't do a snappi coverless. DD always managed to get the crotch snap hung up on something and got "stuck" to whatever she was sliding off. DS got a really nasty cut from it trying to rescue his little sister.

ETA- There are also tie on dipaers... I am sure they would work if you tied them in the back.

If you're crafty at all, 5 minutes with a sewing machine and some twill tape, and you can make a "belt loop" on the edge of the flat. Tuck an end through it before tying the knot and it won't slip off.

Or you could always try an Aristocrats tie dipe. I wouldn't try the Disana tie dipe for the first time on a wiggly toddler. But the Clover tie dipe has the same problem as the flat - the front slips off.

Thanks for the idea about fastening in the BACK. I do have locking-head pins, but they don't lock very tightly, and I think if DS got interested in them he'd eventually get them open. I could fasten the flat with one pin in the back, though, so he probably wouldn't mess with it.

As for tie-on diapers, I had no idea they existed! I'll check that out. I'd like to let the little guy air out his booty now that we're getting into warmer weather, so it might be worth getting one or two of these to use around the house.

I knew people here would have good ideas.

fasten diaper in back ( I do this when I change my DD diaper during nap) sine shes a tummy sleeper or you can even pin where the pin is hidden but it takes practice and a coperative LO.

Try a prefold belt. Just take a toddler headband and put the flat in one side and out the other.

Really, tying the flat on is best for ECing a tiny baby, it's not very useful with an older/mobile baby.

My DD wore the occasional tied flat. Mostly because I thought they were cute, but occasionally just to get some seperation in her groin folds, to let them air out. I did the origam fold, with the front pulled up, about to her belly button, then tied it across her hips, so there was a good 3 inches sticking out above the tie. Then I folded the front down. When she was standing, her belly kept it from slipping out and there was enough fabric for it to grip.

I don't know if you like the low rise look. My kids wouldn't wear anything all the way up on their bellies.

Well, I tried pinning in the back, and that was a big failure. I didn't seem to be able to get the diaper snug enough on him, so it kept falling down to his ankles.

Prefold belt idea is interesting - might give that a whirl. I think I have a stretchy headband around here somewhere that would be about the right size.

I did buy a few Disana tie-on dipes, but I'm having trouble getting them prepped enough to absorb (see my other post about that).
