Does your LO call you by your first name?

My 21-month-old is totally delighted by the discovery that mommy and daddy have other names and loves using them.
I don't mind (it sounds so cute!) but I thought this was something they did much later.

Yes, ds did it a couple times when he realized I had a "real" name besides mama. He was around 2 or 3. He thought it was so funny.

DD1 has done it a few times over the past few years. She thinks it's funny, but it isn't something she does regularly.

I have a cousin who is 15 and he still calls his Mom Julie or Jules. His younger brother never picked it up, though.

oh yeah. it cracks me up when she calls me "maaaaaama firstname!!! come hereeeeee"

Never. Which is surprising given that his sister (my stepdaughter) calls me by my first name and lives here 50% of the time.

DS has started to call DH by his first name, but only when he's yelling for him from another room. Gee, wonder where he picked that up? I'm not even sure he realizes that it is DH's NAME, so much as, I want Daddy, and this is what Mommy yells when she wants Daddy (and I'm downstairs and he's upstairs).

When DH is within earshot, DS calls him Daddy.

my 3 year old niece calls her mom by her first name. always has. she calls her grandma "mom" and her great grandma "mami"

that would bother me so bad, but i guess theyre ok with it

Yeah, but we put a stop to it. It turned from something kinda cute, into something really rude. He picked up a disrecpectful tone when calling me by my first name that made me feel yucky so now its back to mama!

yeah ds calls us by our first names and varitions of them, he also enjoys calling us by other people's first names, and of course mama and papa kitty cat or monster or whatever he's decided to call us.

The only thing I will not answer to is "mommy"

Thanks, mamas.
I was just wondering if it's unusual at 21 months. The idea that people can have multiple names just seems kind of abstract, YK? He says "mommy" when he actually wants me, he just points and "names" me by my first name in the same way that he likes to itemize his body parts or the things he sees around him.

My son was probably about 17 months before he ever called me mom or mommy. Before that he used my first name. I didn't mind. Why would someone mind? I mean no one else calls you mommy (unless you have other kids obviously), it would only be natural for them to call you by the name they hear others call you.

Once he even called me "Babe" which DH will occasionally use. We thought that was hysterical!

My son started calling me by my first name (and his dad by his) around when he turned 3. At first I didn't mind it, but it's been going on for about 6 months now and I've decided to invest the time into getting him to call me Mommy again. Here's why it bothers me: I feel like other people think I'm his nanny/babysitter - shallow I know, but it's what I feel. Also, the looks and comments I get from other people are really - hurtful, I guess.

why?

I have an aversion to "mommy" too. I guess when it comes out of my sons mouth its usually a MAJOR whine. When its mummah its lighthearted and welcome.

heh...that's one of the major reasons WHY I chose to be "mama" instead of "mommy". It's really, really hard to whine "mama".

No... I think he knows on some level that my name is "Sara," but we have a close family friend who he adores with that same name, so that's HER name. I'm just Mama .

Apparently not hard enough for my 15mo!! ALLLLLL DAY LONG it's "ma-MAaaaAAAAAAAA, ma-MAaaaAAAAAAAA" which for some reason other people think is hysterical but it drives me insane.

I was surprised when I was reading DS a book about a guy with my husband's first name & he immediately said da-da, da-da... I didn't know he knew Daddy had a first name!!

Hmmm maybe I should've been 'dada' because he has a hard time whining that...

DD calls me Leah sometimes (well it's "Yee-yah when she says it). But that's because the big kids, call me Leah. She calls me momma, mommy or occassionally mom. When we're having a tea party, she calls me mother (muzzer). "How was your day, muzzer?" Of course, DH's name is Daddy. He doesn't have a real name. HAHA. But then, I rarely call him it, and this big kids call him daddy, so there you go.
