I have a dear friend who is about as un-crunchy as you can get. She is an awesome friend, mother, grandmother and partner in crime and I love her to bits. Generally, I just ignore most of her parenting advice (co-sleeping is a no-no, vaccines are a must, TV is good for you!) but today she said something in an e-mail that I want to address.
I had told her we were night weaning and she had misunderstood and thought we were weaning. I corrected her and told her that the immediate goal was to nurse my DD to 2 years but we were really leaning towards CLW. She wrote back that she thought that was fine, but wanted me to understand that my DD only received any immunities from my breastmilk for the first 8 weeks. Um, what?
Help me lead her to the light, ladies.
Thanks!

). There are so many articles out there that are easy to read and from legitimate sources. I'd choose one that was NOT from mothering or somewhere that could be accused of being 'biased'...if you know what I mean. Then either in person or email I'd say that 'actually my baby's doctor encouraged me that the immunological parts of breastmilk didn't 'expire'...or whatever words.... and that they'd shown you this article, here it is if you're interested in seeing it.' Maybe it would take the heat off and not seem argumentative, but more factual and straightforward. I don't know your friend or if this approach would work for her- just going by what I might do if some of my family said something like this.
