Narrowed it down to eggs, I think. -- Nope! Back to the drawing board.

So Wednesday, DS went to a homeopath, who checked him over and we talked about his eczema and stuff. Turns out that the redness around his anus is actually a food-sensitivity rash, and not just normal skin coloration like I thought it was (so I didn't even think to question it or anything). I decided to cut eggs and strawberries. But now I'm really thinking that eggs are the main culprit.

At the time of the appointment, I'd been off eggs for a few days, and his skin was looking nice. Homeopath was surprised when I told her that it was a "good" day for his eczema though, b/c apparently it still looked really bad to her.

Anyway, so I continued stopping eggs and also stopped strawberries. The rash on his bottom was fading fast -- faster than his face was clearing up -- so it was the first noticeable thing that made me realize I might be doing something right. But Thursday evening, DH brought home a piece of lemon pie. He stuck it in the freezer and then I ate it sometime yesterday. This morning, DS woke up and the bottom rash had returned, and his face looked WAY worse. I was trying to rack my brain wondering what I ate. Was it the sweet potato fries? No... I ate those after he went to bed and he hadn't nursed since I ate them. Wait... what's in that pie? I bet there are eggs in that pie. And I looked up the pie and sure enough, it has eggs in it.

So now I really AM off eggs. After a few days of clear-up, I may try strawberries, b/c now that I've "found" the eggs, I am no longer as suspicious of strawberries as I once was. And really, the strawberries only came into thought b/c for a few days, DD and I had been eating PB&J and her jelly was strawberry and my jelly was blueberry.

But anyway. I'm just glad I found something to eliminate that is having some noticeable positive effect, and a fast effect at that.

I'm glad you figured it out! My DS has egg allergy too.

Well, poo. Now I don't know if it's eggs after all. He's getting worse again. (banghead). Does this happen when cutting out food (getting worse and better) or should it be a slow and steady getting better only, w/ no setbacks?

I am so bummed because I really thought I figured it out.

In my limited experience (me and two kids with food intolerances), it only gets better. Though with DS, he had 3 days of withdrawal from gluten, but it was mostly just begging for it (vs. worsening symptoms).

Are you keeping a food journal? It can be more than one food with different symptoms for each food (makes it fun to figure out).

Also, when it gets worse I always suspect whatever food you started eating more of or added in to substitute.

It's not eggs. He was a lot worse this morning.

I thought it might be corn, until we got to lunchtime and I checked my bread and found that it has HFCS in it, so scratch that idea.

A friend on FB offered contact info for a pediatric allergist that she used. Meanwhile, I'm going to give DS his homeopathic remedy on Wednesday (he's been on antibiotics and our homeopath wants him to be off of them for several days before the remedy is given).

I'm curious about eliminating foods while bfing. How long does it typically take for an allergenic food to cause a reaction in baby? I've read that it can take 10 days-3 weeks for dairy proteins to be removed before seeing any improvement in baby's symptoms, but I'm curious about all the other allergenic foods.

this.

How are you being told to give the remedy? Are you doing a single dose, a few days, once a month, daily?

It's 200C calc carb and she told me just to do a single dose, then email her 2 weeks afterwards, then 2 weeks after the email I'll be going in-office again for a follow up.
