Any guesses on what this means?

Dd2 is almost 15 months. Anytime I say "no", or stop her from doing something she wants to do in any way, she puts her hands on her head and says, "head. head. head" and cries.

For example, she was eating a sandwich and had pulled it apart. She had one slice of bread in each hand and the fillings were flopping everywhere. I folded one piece in half and squished it a bit to keep it together. She was SO upset. I had defiled her sandwich. That I understand. But, what does that have to do with her head?

Or, she swipes a toy from ds. I tell her "that's ds'. Here's one for you." And she cries and does the head thing again. I just don't get it?

Any guesses about what she's trying to tell me?

Sounds like she just doesn't know how to say, I'm mad, I'm frustrated, etc.

I agree - sounds frustrated. I know DS (13 mo) holds his head in both hands when he's frustrated. Then he pats his own hair - I think that's his self-soothing mechanism.

Are you shaking your head when you say no to him?

I do probably shake my head, but I don't say "no" often. She's hears it plenty from dd and ds, though. She does put her hands on her eyes when she's tired and cries, so maybe it is just a soothing thing to her when she's sad/mad/whatever. It's cute, but I wanted to acknowledge her somehow and it wasn't clicking with me. Thanks.
