At last! Found good source for birth stats

Hey, y'all,

I had been looking and looking for perinatal stats online for my state and county, and finally found it. Thanks to the March of Dimes.

Since it took me forever, I thought I would post it here just in case anyone else was interested.

Since there is only one hospital in my county, I can quickly find out the c/s rate, VBAC rate, etc for the hospital.

Noteworthy facts about my county:

C/S average between 2002-2006 = 32.6%
(Helping push up that national average! Go, team, go!)

VBAC rate = 1.6%

Now I am not surprised by that pitiful rate, since the hospital has a de facto vbac ban...but what surprises is that the 2 counties next to us has a 8% and 10% rate! I thought it would be pitiful all across the board since we are all in small rural areas. What a pleasant surprise!

Wow, the county I'm in has a c/s rate of 26%. (Two hospitals)

The VBAC rate is 12.6%. I guess that that is a good thing but its down from 35.9% in 1996.

Thank you for the link. I'm not surprised to see the c/s rate is 2% higher in my county than the one to the north of me with a better hospital.... and the VBAC rate is nearly double at the better hospital.

my state

Wow CA c-sec rate is 31.3%! vbac down from 22% in 1996 to 5% in 2006

vbac in my county is 2% - so sad! - was 25% in 1996

Wow! The VBAC rate in a neighboring county is 45.2%!! In my county it's 22%.

I have to wonder, is the birth listed in the county where the birth occurred, or where the mother lives? I suppose it makes more sense to list by place of birth rather than residence...

I believe it would be the county of birth, ie. where the birth certificate was filed.

It says mine is 29, but our state statistics reported by the hospital are 39%

Our VBAC rate is.... 0. That's right ZERO.

South of us where there are areas with no hospitals that will allow OB care or deliveries of any kind for over an hour or more in any direction have 13.6 to over 20% pre-term births. I know many people drive hours for planned c-sections and inductions because of lack of any prenatal or birth care in that whole section of the state. But that area also has the largest concentration of post-dates. I wonder why that is?
