Anyone use glutamine?

Has anyone used glutamine for gut healing and intestinal symptoms of food allergies? I have some in my cabinet and it's from Progressive Laboratories. There is no expiration date on it, but I am pretty sure it has been open for at least two years (probably more). It is in a sealed foil-type package, with a seal like a Ziploc. So it was opened initially but it has been closed, in my cabinet. Does this stuff go bad? Is it still good?

If I decide to buy some fresh, any good sources/brands you know of?

I tried this with my older son a long time ago, and for some reason, thought he didn't react well to it, but now I don't remember exactly why I stopped. I know I didn't give it to him for long. But I am thinking about trying it again.

Any feedback? Thanks!

For kids on the autism spectrum like my son, at least, glutamine is a double edged sword. While it can be good for gut healing, it can easily be turned to glutamate in the body, which is an excitatory neurotransmitter. Basically the same impact as eating a spoonful of MSG. Too much glutamate can negatively impact sleep, focus, calmness, etc. So if you saw any negative side effects, that's what I would assume might have happened for your child.

Hmm, that's interesting. because I am thinking that his reaction must have been more digestive. That's his major issue. Dealing with parasites now too. The thing is that I think glutamine is supposed to heal the gut lining, so I thought I'd give it a try again. I am thinking that last time it either gave him more diarrhea or constipation. (He never gets constipated though, his main issue is looser stools.)
