organizing CDs and recycling cases

I am considering taking my shelf of CDs and putting them into one of those CD holder things. But I am hesitant. Not sure why. Where do you put the paper insert if you do this? DO you put it in its own envelope across from the CD? Or do you put it int he same envelope as the CD?

At one point, I have found an online resource to recycle CD cases, old VHS tapes, etc, but I cannot find that now. Does anyone know? This was a place in CA I think, and you could mail the items to them.

I just recently did this with all our dvd's. I long ago did it with my cd's. You certainly could put the papers with the cd's - I just recycled them. Check the plastic on the cases - you might be able to recycle them locally.

Mine are all on my ipod. I'd love to sell off the cds, but I feel awkward doing this... but I don't want to keep them anymore either....

But don't you ever want to "see" the paper part of the CD, to read the song titles, or know what number a certain song is, or see the lyrics, etc?

Do you mean me? the ipod says song names b/c we programmed them in. I can find lyrics online... for that matter I can find the song order online, too, but usually I just flip through til I hear it (especially on a regular cd)... I don't even remember the last time I looked at a booklet

I SOOOOOOOOOOOO want to convince my hubby to do this. He has well over 300 CDs with their cases . He has put all of them on his iPod but is keeping the CDs incase something happens to his CDs

They take up a ton of room in our 900 sqft house. He has about 150+ DVDs too.

I found a company on line that sells sleeves that allow you to keep the insert with the CD. They were $.50 a piece....multiply by 400= expensive. I shoved them back in the attic.

for empty cases, maybe list on Freecycle? I've seen postings from people specifically looking for them.

years ago I put our CDs and the paper book that comes with it into the same sleeve. it was a little tight, but worked! I still saved the cases for some unknown reason though!

Upon re-evaluating the collection a few months ago, some of the CDs are no longer our taste, and will not be again. I'm not one for saving "just in case" when it comes to that kind of thing, so I put the CDs, and leaflets back in the cases and donated to our library's book sale. maybe someone else will enjoy it?

we put all the CDs that we still really love into our iTunes library, and are just praying that we dont lose it all...
