End of year gift for teacher

Daughter goes to 2 days school. What does everyone do for appreciation? We gave a X-mas gift, flowers for Easter already.

Does everyone traditional give end of year goodbye gift and what do you give? Curious. Thanks

We're going to give a gift card to a local bookstore.

My friends who are teachers really seem to like gift cards best. Or food. I think they get plenty of bath products and candles. I remember in kindergarten, my teacher told us right before Christmas - be sure to tell your mommy you don't have to get Miss S ANYTHING for Christmas. She has all the little perfume and fancy soap she needs (it was the 70s, "guest" soap was big).

Last year we made a "book" for dd's teacher where I asked her questions about her teacher and she answered them. I typed it out and left room for illustrations. The teacher loved it. This year we are making her a wordle word cloud with important words from the year and framing it.

I think gift cards are great. I know that they use their own money in the classroom.

I was going to write a check for all that ds broke this year; maybe a gift card would be more "proper"; any ideas as to the once least likely to result in problems when you use it?

My mom is a retired teacher, she loved the gift cards-Starbuck's was her fav-even if they aren't coffee drinkers, there are mugs and stuff there too.

Last year, I gave a gift card to a store where the teacher could buy extra art or school supplies. But what she really seemed to appreciate was a short note I wrote thanking her for all her hard work (DD is a handful! ) I think she appreciated the note a lot. She wrote me a thank you note telling me my note made her cry.

We are making a lap quilt with handprints, class name, and names of all the children. The fabric we are using is a picture of children holding hands around a globe with peace signs (it's a Montessori school). One of the Mom's in the class is awesome at sewing and it's something that can be displayed for awhile and then put away as a keepsake.

Some of the favorites at our school:
giftcard to bookstore, coffee shop, or local restaurant for lunch
2 movie passes and a big pack of candy like licorice or junior mints
2 lobsters
beach towel
small picnic basket
coupons to local ice cream place
sometimes the parents get together and each chip in a few dollars for a class gift
handmade things are great- like a flower pot decorated with glass "jewels" with a pretty hanging plant or something ( goes along with a card or writing on the pot that says "thank you for helping me grow")

Honestly- EVERY teacher I have ever known has appreciated a thoughtful, personal card more than anything!

I got this suggestion from teacher friends. I hand write a note of appreciation every year, thanking the teacher for all her/his efforts for that year. As Dylan got older, I would have him add a line or 2. Teachers get little enough appreciation for all the hard work that they do through out the year and never get thanked enough.

Very true. My dh is a teacher, and personal cards are deeply appreciated.

Still, I love this idea for dd's teacher this year!

To the PP who said 'tell your mommy ms s. has all the lotion and soap she needs' that is so true. Gifts that go back into the classroom are nice but honestly after spending the past 40 weeks there the last thing teachers want to think about is 'the classroom' in most cases. GC to the bookstore, yankee candle, the local nail salon/spa are all great gifts.

Times are tough $$ for teachers too. So even a grocery card would be well received.

Having been a teacher for almost two decades, I can say that the personalized notes/cards are always appreciated and loved for many, many years to come. I still have some letters from my first year as a sixth grade teacher I'll probably always keep these letters because it is a constant reminder of why I became a teacher...and stayed a teacher all these years. It most certainly wasn't for the $$ (at least in AZ that is) but for the awesomeness of teaching our future generations...and when the children and often times parents appreciate this at the end-of-the-year with a note/card it's just priceless to me .

It would be impossible to find a big enough gift to say thank you to my children's teachers this year!

That being said, we like to do gift cards and something personal.

This year I am doing Target gift cards...that way they can either get something for themselves or the classroom...whatever they want.

I give a gift card to a coffee place so the teacher has something she can treat just herself to. I like the idea of giving books or things for the classroom in addition to something that a teacher can use just on herself. I think teachers spend so much time thinking about their kids that they also deserve a little gift that only they can use even if it is just for one cup. I also have dd make a card and write a little message on it, even if when her writing was mostly invented.
