Classical K & 1st

My oldest daughter will be doing her official first grade year starting this fall, and we've been working on K this past school year. She's working at a first grade level in many areas, but is still on track for K for others.

I don't have TWTM yet, I am hoping to purchase it before the next school year but have read it from the library. Once I pay my fines I can borrow it again if need be. I'm still learning how to keep library books in one place from 4 small children... lol.

Anyway, I can't remember exactly what topics/subjects are covered in 1st grade from reading the book, and I'm wondering what you plan on doing.

And what is out there that is considered 'classical' for K. I realize few things are covered that year but my oldest daughter lept ahead I never really did K with her on a few things, where I think my son who will be doing K, will need K-focused materials.

Just picking brains and trying to see what is out there that I haven't considered yet.

Are there good classical education resources on the web where I might find recommendations, outlines for the year, etc?

I don't have the book any longer but K isn't rigorous at all--it is just learning to read if I remember right academics wise. The rest is lifestyle type everyday learning.

The main idea in early elementary (1st grade starts this in the book, not K) though was to have a very solid foundation in the basics--reading, math, spelling, writing, grammar. Reading well is the first priority.

Have you found the Well Trained Mind forum? You'll be able to get a feel for different curriculum choices.

Our first grade will be:
1. I See Sam books for reading along with Phonics Road (covers spelling, phonics, writing, literature, and grammar as it goes--full LA program)
I may do HWOT still too if we need extra handwriting (we're weak in that area).
2. RightStart for math

Lots of people use SOTW for history. We're doing Heart of Dakota for history/bible/literature/science etc.

For extras I'm doing How to Teach Art to Children but I've heard good things about (I think) Artistic Pursuits. La Classa Diverta for Spanish.

My 6yo DD will be starting 1st this fall, and sounds much like yours. She did quite a bit of my 1st grade stuff for K this year (she likes being a part of what her older sister is doing).

Here's our plan for next year:

Language Arts
Explode the Code 3 and 4
I See Sam and AAS readers (independent reading)
Cursive First
All About Spelling 2/3
Literature selections (read by me) from AO

Math
Singapore 1B and 2A

Science
Among the Pond, Forest, Night ....People
One Small Square books

History
We are not starting History because DD9 will be going back to Ancients the following year and I want to keep them together. I think we will do some Prehistory and Geography instead.

It looks like too much when I type it out, but we don't do it all every day. I plan on 90 minutes of table work, which does not include listening to read alouds and other fun projects.
