14 month old fighting sleep

Our LO refuses to go down gracefully. I need suggestions on how to make going to sleep not torture to her. We have a bath, read, then nurse and rock. She does well until she starts falling asleep while rocking when she starts crying and thrashing. This fight can go on for 2/3 minutes up to 30. It makes night time less than ideal for any of us. Any ideas on what I can do to help her accept sleep?

(weird - sorry about the phantom reply!) My LO is a sleep-fighter too. She's 12 mo, and it takes some combination of rocking, bouncing, etc. to get her down. One thing that seemed to work last night that maybe you could try was I rocked her until she was sleepy, and then lay down with her on her futon and rubbed her back while she thrashed and fussed. She never cried, but just fussed and fell asleep with her hands on my belly I'm wondering if maybe she just needed to work some energy out on her own, rather than being held where she has limited movement. Do you think this could be true for your LO?
