Educate me on bowel tolerance vit c?

I just found out about this...I was always under the knowledge that you can never take too much vitamin c, that you just pee out what you don't need. I have been dealing with possible IBS and would love to know if this is one of my culprits!

I usually take about 1,000 mg Ascorbic Acid - sometimes an extra one at night equalling 1,500 mg a day. Mainly just for immunity maintenance. Starting back in November, I had horrid episodes which led me to a gastroenteroligist. I've had it tested (gross, tmi) all neg and a neg colonoscopy. It continued for a while, then I got better and now just have occasional upsets. I do take a probiotic everyday but like I said, I still have upsets and still can't figure out, when I do have a bad day, what caused it. I end up taking immodium when it's bad - which can be once a week.

If the Vit C is not the cause, then I would tend to think it is a culprit or cannot be helping me.

when your body is saturated with vitamin c it will loosen your bowels. In my opinion, things called IBS, celiac disease are labels made up by the industry so they can create drugs to treat them. What they actually are IMO is the intolerance to the foods we give the body. Gluten, dairy, soy, corn (since most is GMO and even the organic has been compromised) all cause these symptoms because the human body is not equipped to tolerate them. Stop taking the vitamin c for now of course, but I also suggest a chemical (preservatives, dyes, msg (which hides under many names like natural flavors), HFCS), GMO free diet that is also GFCFSF and only corn that is organic and in whole form like corn on the cob and popcorn to heal the IBS.

I totally agree with this, my dd is gluten, dairy, soy, and egg intolerant, and would be so badly constipated that she couldn't poop on her own. If I listened to the doctors she would be living on Miralax. Stop the vit c, also check your supps for magnesium as it can cause loose bowels, too. When/if you decide to take vit c again, here's info on how to figure out "bowel tolerance":

Wow...I've been dealing with this for so long and this could have been it? I also take a prenatal (not pg but just never stopped taking it for some reason).

2.5 grams of vitC seems low to cause any digestive issues. Some people are very sensitive to it, but most people need closer to 5-6 grams per day, and some of us need a lot more. I find that sodium ascorbate is a gentler form--ok, I take my initial statement back somewhat, ascorbic acid is tougher on the stomach IME and I'm not sure at what point it would start causing digestive issues. I've taken far, far more vitC as sodium ascorbate than you are, my kids have as well, without digestive upset.

I'd also read of IBS often resolving when one or more problematic foods are removed from the diet.
