Shin pain/running

I am new to running (now starting my 5th week) and finally, finally, I love it (have tried to take up running a few times before but never stuck with it). I have the mental rhythm down, I feel clear and focused, and I look forward to my running time (about 4 X week). I notice that I have a developing discomfort in my R shin -- it's not super painful, but just nags me. It feels sort of tight, if that makes sense. I've gotten some conflicting advice about whether to keep on my schedule, or to dial it back -- but none of the advice comes from anyone who runs regularly. Yesterday I hiked for 4 hours and it felt fine; the day before that, I ran for just over 3 miles and it was bugging me. Any thoughts?

Do you have properly fitting shoes? If not, go to a specialty running store where they look at your foot, your gait, balance, etc. to find the right shoe for your needs. Do you run on a tread mill? or a side walk? They can be harder on your shins than asphalt or a track. Do you stretch thoroughly after a run/walk/hike? One last thing that has helped me with knee pain is seeing a chiro. My knee didn't hurt, it just felt off, as you describe with your shin. A small adjustment made all the difference for me.
