Well, I went out and bought myself a little wheel of brie... baked it a bit until it was gooey, ate it with crusty bread and apples. It was DIVINE!

Eat it! I used to work in a cheese shop, and the only way raw cheeses can be imported in to the US is if they are aged. Brie not-it's a pretty fresh cheese. And even if it WERE raw, I'd still eat it. I'm a rebel.

Most anything you buy in the US is going to be pasteurized unless it's a local/individual selling or something.

I limited what I ate my first pregnancy and then starting researching the 'whys' in my second pregnancy and decided I felt comfortable eating most of what is restricted.

I refuse to go without brie, sushi, peanut butter, etc.

I went without brie for my first pregnancy. Then I clued in that unless I bought some important brie, I was fine. Get yourself some pasteurized brie and go nuts.

I slice a round in half, spread a mixture of chopped toasted almonds (or any type of nut), brown sugar and dijon. Throw it in the oven to bake with some bread and enjoy.

It's funny this should come up, as I was at dinner two nights ago at a friend's and we were talking about this very topic! Sadly, a friend of hers recently lost her baby due to eating unpasteurized soft cheese, so I feel I should add a word of caution to be sure to check the label before eating. I do eat pasteurized cheeses like feta myself but have steered clear of the soft or raw variety just in case. That said, I think what happened to to this woman was extremely rare, but yes, it does happen.
