I buy a small bottle called "One minute Miso". It is a thick paste that you mix with water and dried wakami to make the soup. It is delish, has no MSG, and is super duper easy.

If you want to buy a container of miso, I highly reccommend going for the barley miso. I find it has a much richer flavour than rice miso. I used to drink it as a kid all the time with just a tablespoon of miso to a cup of water (we called it miso tea). I still love it and am totally planning on having it around for labour.

to make a more substantial soup, I just add a handful of chopped green onions and some firm cubed tofu, maybe a stip or two of seaweed if you're a fan. (to a pot of hot water with a few tbsp of miso paste added...with miso, you can always add more paste if you want it more robust. I'd start with one tbsp/cup of water and add from there if you so choose)
