reasons/remedies for back ache at 38ish weeks

I have for the last couple of days had fairly extreme mid-lower hip-back...ache? not really ache or pain but weakness and tiredness? It's like it's uncomfortable enough that it makes it really hard to stand up straight or walk. I used to get that after more of a full day or doing lots of up-and-about stuff and I think it was just tired from carrying my belly but now it's like I can't stand up long enough to do a sink full of dishes without bending over across the sink. If I am off my butt for any length of time my back just gets so... weak I guess. And really uncomfortable. The braxton hicks are a given as well when I am standing my belly just becomes a tight ball. They become uncomfortable after a while like if I walk around the block.

I haven't been to the chiropractor in a couple of weeks so I'll definitely go this week but it doesn't really feel like that's going to help, it's more like my hips get exhausted.

Is this usual and are there any remedies you use?

I'm also 38 weeks pregnant and have been experiencing very similar pains. I've found pelvic tilts to give me a little relief.

How is your hydration? Electrolytes? Braxton-Hicks will definitely increase with dehydration, so I would consider that that could be a factor. How is baby's position? Pelvic tilts can help not only stretch and strengthen your back but also move baby into a better position (if he's not already).

Otherwise, maybe a support belt would help?

The best way I've found to combat back pain is to lay on a heating pad for as long as possible. If i can get dp to rub the offending area to loosen it up & then lay on the heating pad, it usually works wonders. Until the next day, anyway. Not sure if that'll do the trick in your case since it's not exactly *pain*, but might be worth a try?

The reason is that you are 38 weeks pregnant! I found pelvic tilts to be magic, but had to do them many times a day. Don't overdo activities (I had to cut the cleaning down to a minimum, as sweeping, dishes, and folding laundry all aggravated the pain) and just try to rest. You are in the home stretch!

I've felt like I've been so lucky overall with my back considering I've had a lot of problems with it for the last few years! I can't believe a few pounds of belly could tip me over the edge but I suppose that's what it is.

I've tried on support belts a couple of months ago and at that time they didn't seem like they'd do much (I think at the time I was having a lot of disturbing BH when I was up and about which are fine with me now since I am full term) do you think it could be a worthwhile investment at this point? My hips were also hurting a couple of months ago but some regular chiro helped. I will be doing that a couple more times now I think.

Did a heating pad last night and today my back is not TOO bad... I will also try to make myself start some pelvic tilts. I think baby is pretty much in position but not actually engaged yet.
