Yes, around 20 weeks. It can be a few weeks earlier, but 20 weeks is when the routine ultrasound is done to look at heart, kidneys, etc, so that's when most people find out.
We "found out" with our first - but it was wrong! We planned for a girl - called her by name for 4 months - and then got a boy.
That was my 3rd routine ultrasound, since I had one to confirm the pregnancy at my OB, then another to confirm the pregnancy when I moved and established care with a midwife. It wasn't until after the 3rd one that I started doubting the wisdom of routine ultrasounds. I haven't decided for sure, but I will probably decline them this time.
BUT, if I do end up needing an ultrasound for some particular indication, I'm not opposed to hearing the tech's prediction of the sex.
