How many wool soakers?

How many wool soakers are needed in any given size? I cloth diapered with DS, but never ventured into wool. Now that we're expecting again, I've decided to do prefolds and/or a few fitteds with wool covers. I thought I'd buy a few pull on dappis to have around just in case all the wool is dirty, but how many wool soakers would we need if those are our main cover type?

I am crochetting covers myself and wool yarn isn't expensive, so price is not an issue. How many wool soakers would be best? I have 3 so far, but only 1 is cute enough to leave the house. LOL

I would think, if you are making your own, that you could have an endless supply of them. But for diaper covers, realistically, probably between 5-7?

I have two wool soakers and I can use the same one all day long. Though, granted, I don't use wool full time, so I have a handful of pul covers that I also use.

Yes, I could make an endless supply, but I'm trying to not get too carried away!

I really wasn't sure how long a baby could wear the same one. I'm just working on small size right now... so maybe 6 of those and then on to medium? I plan to make longies and skirties, too, but just the soakers for the early weeks. If I could figure out knitting, I would make some sleep sacks for the newborn stage since the crochet ones seem like they would be too thick for my San Diego weather. Is it really true that wool doesn't get really hot?

We had maybe 3 or 4 for early days. Now I couldn't even tell you how many we have, but we go through about 4/day. He's such a heavy pee-er that I have to change his wool about every other diaper change to give it a chance to dry. And I've stopped putting him in wool at night, since his legs were breaking out where the wet dipe was touching.

And yes, he doesn't seem to have any problem with wool as it's warming up... alothough it hasn't broken 80 here yet. There've been times when his face/chest were sweaty (like after sleeping in his car seat for an hour), but his legs/bottom were not.
